The Story Behind Dusty Paws Ranch

Built from a passion for dogs, a love of the Colorado outdoors, and a belief that boarding and training can be done better.

Meet Emily

Hi, I'm Emily, founder of Dusty Paws K9 Ranch.

My journey with dogs began in veterinary medicine, where I worked as a veterinary assistant for nearly five years. While I developed a strong foundation in animal health and care, I became increasingly fascinated by canine behavior and what helps dogs thrive.

That passion became personal when I adopted my dog, Teddy, who struggled with significant reactivity. Wanting to better understand and help him led me to years of studying under experienced trainers and eventually building a career specializing in behavior modification, advanced obedience, and helping dogs with anxiety, fear, reactivity, aggression, and other behavioral challenges.

Dusty Paws K9 Ranch was built to reflect the kind of place I would want for my own dogs—a safe, clean environment where dogs genuinely enjoy their time away from home. Every part of the ranch was created with dog behavior in mind, balancing freedom, routine, and enrichment to help dogs feel relaxed, confident, and truly at ease.

Why the Ranch Matters

Dusty Paws K9 Ranch was created to give dogs something many traditional boarding facilities simply can't—space to move, opportunities to socialize appropriately, and an environment designed around how dogs naturally learn and communicate. We believe every stay should leave dogs not only well cared for, but more confident, fulfilled, and comfortable in the world around them.

The ranch itself is an important part of that experience. With wide-open pastures, multiple outdoor play areas, and thoughtfully designed indoor spaces for both activity and rest, dogs have the opportunity to explore, practice healthy social skills, and settle into a calm daily routine that simply isn't possible in many traditional kennel settings.
