The Story Behind Dusty Paws Ranch
Built from a passion for dogs, a love of the Colorado outdoors, and a belief that boarding and training can be done better.
Meet Emily
Hi, I'm Emily, founder of Dusty Paws K9 Ranch.
My journey with dogs began in veterinary medicine, where I worked as a veterinary assistant for nearly five years. While I developed a strong foundation in animal health and care, I became increasingly fascinated by canine behavior and what helps dogs thrive.
That passion became personal when I adopted my dog, Teddy, who struggled with significant reactivity. Wanting to better understand and help him led me to years of studying under experienced trainers and eventually building a career in professional dog training, with a focus on behavior modification, obedience, and understanding dogs with more complex behavioral needs.
Dusty Paws K9 Ranch was built to reflect the kind of place I would want for my own dogs—a safe, clean environment where dogs genuinely enjoy their time away from home. Every part of the ranch was created with dog behavior in mind, balancing freedom, routine, and enrichment to help dogs feel relaxed, confident, and truly at ease.
Why the Ranch Matters
There's a certain peace that comes with being out on the ranch. No busy sidewalks, constant foot traffic, or crowds of dogs coming and going. Just wide-open space, fresh air, and a quieter pace of life that gives dogs the chance to relax and enjoy their surroundings.
We've carried that same atmosphere into our indoor facility, keeping it clean, comfortable, and as calm as possible. With a limited number of dogs, carefully managed interactions, and plenty of space to accommodate different needs, we can avoid much of the constant stimulation found in larger boarding facilities. This is especially valuable for dogs who are easily overwhelmed, reactive, or simply prefer a quieter environment.
And because we live right here on the property, we're closely involved in the daily operation of the ranch and never far from the dogs staying with us.
